Winexpert: February News & Sales

With more snow coming our way tonight and tomorrow,  our thoughts are turning to spring with our seasonal wines just being announced.  Some details are listed below

Just a little housekeeping note…If you have a hotmail account on file with us for your wine notifications as well as receiving the newsletter, you may have been missing e-mails.  Hotmail has a very anti-spam policy and they are seeing our e-mails as spam.  Add us to your address book and that should rectify any issues.

The Limited Release Eclipse Forza has sold out six months earlier than expected.  This is good news and bad news!  The bad news is that we are out of this fantastic wine, but hopefully they will look at carrying it as a regular listing for us because of its popularity.  Good news is that they have secured grapes for another Limited Release Eclipse wine.  It is still a secret, but I will let you know as soon as I get word.

Limited Editions

The California Mosaic will be in stock now.  If you pre-ordered one, you should have received an e-mail from us.  If you missed the order deadline, contact us and we may be able to get our hands on some more. We have March and April wines that are still available at the warehouse. Click HERE for details on the other wines

NEW Island Mist!

This delicious sounding Cucumber Melon Sauvignon Blanc will be arriving in store Wednesday February 24th .  It will be a permanent listing, so no pre-orders required, just come and get it!  $129 to make in our winery and that includes the kit, wine-making fee, taxes, corks, labels, shrink caps, bottlewashing and sanitizing.

Sneak Peak

These will be seasonal wines and available in March and we don’t know any more about them than that.  We will release the full details in March with pricing and probably take pre-orders to ensure that we have enough in stock.

Our Favourites Sale-Save $15

For the next three months we are going to be  featuring different Selection wines that are staff favourites.  This month is my pick… Save $15 on Nancy’s Favourite Wines.  This is really difficult to do because I like them all, but these three are my “go to” wines that I always have at home.

Until February 27, 2016

Australian Petit Verdot with Grape Skins ($199 reg. price)

Selection

Ready in 6-8 weeks

Best described as a ‘Super Cabernet’, this is a dark rich wine with wonderfully concentrated flavours of juicy blackberry and black currant, with smooth, gripping tannins and an elegant structure leading to a magnificent, boldly oaked finish.  With intense fruit-forward character, this wine drinks well immediately and it will fully round out in only three months, delivering intense fruit and richness.  Serve with grilled steak, roasted lamb or try it with bittersweet chocolate!

Nancy’s notes: Fantastic smooth finish with big fruit on the palate and doesn’t need much ageing in the bottle!

Chilean Carmenère ($185 reg. price)

Selection

Ready in 6 weeks

Deep crimson, with dark cherry aroma, red fruits and berry notes running to a smoky, spicy finish with notes of dark chocolate and tobacco. With medium full body and moderate tannins, Carmenre drinks well young and improves with age.
Drink with grilled beef, pizza, or dark chocolate.

Nancy’s notes: I don’t get the tobacco flavour in this one, but I definitely get the big rich cherry flavour with dark chocolate notes.

Australian Traminer-Riesling (Reg. price $185)

Selection

Ready in 6 weeks

The lively golden hue reveals a combination of floral notes and apple crispness with perfumed headiness of lychee, rose petals, and hints of passion fruit. The long finish and medium body makes a great off-dry wine for sipping.
Excellent with Asian cuisine, soft cheeses, oily fish and especially smoked salmon.

Nancy’s notes: This wine is off-dry (1), but don’t let this scare you off.  It has a beautiful balance of crispness and intense fruit.  If you want to pick up a bottle at NB Liquor that is VERY similar, try Mike Weir’s Open Riesling Gewurztraminer.
