We had to share some fantastic news that has just happened recently.  We entered 10 of our wines into the International Winemaker Competition that took place in May and we won FOUR medals. Silver for our Vintner’s Reserve Pinot Gris, Bronze for our Island Mist Pineapple Pear Pinot Grigio, Vintner’s Reserve Angel Blanco and Selection Italian Amarone with Grape Skins.

Interesting Fact:

Chile’s claim to fame in the wine world is their Carmenère. For years since the 19th century Chilean grape growers thought they were growing Merlot.  It wasn’t until the 1990’s when French wine enthusiasts discovered that some of the grapes in a number of Chile’s vineyards – believed by the Chilean’s to be a variation of classic Merlot – were actually Carmenère, a variety long since lost in its native France due to an infestation of pests.  Chile was left virtually unaffected by the infestation due to its convenient geographical location and natural protective barriers.  As it turns out, the country had inadvertently preserved the Carmenère grapes amidst its Merlot for 150 years!  No wonder Chile considers Carmenère to be its signature grape.  It’s the best mistake they ever could have made.

Forget everything you’ve heard about spritzers.  They don’t just come in white!  Drop blackberries and raspberries into your glass, cover them with your Chilean Carmenère and chill for 10 minutes.  Fill the rest of your glass with sparkling water and you have one easy red wine spritzer perfect for those warm evenings under the stars.
